Borussia Dortmund 2-3 Hoffenheim: Maximilian Beier's double sees visitors stun Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund lost 3-2 at home to Hoffenheim on Sunday, with Maximilian Beier scoring twice in the second half to put the hosts' Bundesliga fourth-place lead in jeopardy.

Dortmund have 41 points, one more than RB Leipzig in fifth and six behind third-placed VfB Stuttgart, who drew 1-1 at home to Cologne on Saturday. Hoffenheim are seventh with 30 points after 23 games.

After two minutes, Hoffenheim's Ihlas Bebou stole the ball from Dortmund's defence, ran into the box, and slotted home from close range.

Dortmund equalised in the 21st minute with a close-range volley from Donyell Malen following a corner flicked on by Marco Reus, and Nico Schlotterbeck's towering header off a free kick made it 2-1 four minutes later.

Beier equalised in the 61st minute with a deflected shot from the edge of the box, and the 21-year-old added a second three minutes later with a tap-in to restore the visitors' lead.

Dortmund captain Emre Can came close to a stoppage-time equaliser, but his close-range header went wide as his team suffered their first defeat in 2024.
