Bournemouth 1-0 Everton: Brooks strike late winner as Cherries edge past dogged Toffees

Bournemouth extended their unbeaten streak to a club-record eight matches in the top flight by defeating Everton 1-0, leaving the visitors with only one victory in their last 11 Premier League appearances.
The Toffees have yet to secure a win at the Vitality Stadium during the Premier League era, and a dominant first half for Bournemouth suggested that they would find it difficult to change that trend.
Recently, the Cherries have posed a significant threat from set pieces, and this tactic nearly paid off within the first ten minutes when Dean Huijsen redirected a long throw to Dango Ouattara, whose first-time shot was expertly saved by Jordan Pickford.
Pickford was nearly beaten in the 15th minute by Antoine Semenyo, but his sweeping shot from Ryan Christie’s cross was disallowed for offside.
Undeterred, Andoni Iraola’s side continued to press forward, with Evanilson sending an effort wide before Justin Kluivert was played through on the inside right, only for Pickford to thwart his attempted chip.
As half-time approached, Pickford managed to hold onto a header from Semenyo, while Sean Dyche’s side was further hampered by the early exit of striker Armando Broja due to injury.
Despite a double substitution by the visitors at halftime, Bournemouth maintained their dominance, with Pickford making two impressive saves to deny low shots from Semenyo and Ouattara.
Frustration began to mount among the home supporters as opportunities dwindled after the hour mark, allowing Pickford and the central defensive pairing of James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite to feel increasingly secure.
However, in the 77th minute, the tide turned when a superb cross from the dynamic full-back Milos Kerkez was met by a brilliantly controlled first-time volley from substitute David Brooks, whose shot found the far corner after just clearing Branthwaite’s head.
The Welshman's second goal of the season proved decisive in ensuring victory for the Cherries, who achieved a double over Everton following a remarkable comeback in the earlier match.
As a result of this fifth consecutive home victory in head-to-head encounters, they remain within the top seven and among the contenders for European qualification. Meanwhile, Everton finds themselves only two points above the relegation zone after failing to find the net in their fifth consecutive away game.
