Bournemouth sign Mexico defender Julian Araujo from Barcelona

Bournemouth has officially acquired Mexican defender Julian Araujo, aged 23, from Barcelona in a transaction valued at approximately £8.5 million ($10.9 million) as of Tuesday.

Araujo has signed a five-year contract with the Premier League club following the conclusion of his one-year tenure at Barcelona.

Originally from California, the right-back began his professional journey with LA Galaxy before transferring to Camp Nou in 2023.

Although Araujo did not make any competitive appearances for Barcelona, he spent the previous season on loan at Las Palmas and marks Bournemouth's fifth acquisition since the conclusion of the last season.

"Julian is a player we have been monitoring for some time, and we are thrilled to welcome him to AFC Bournemouth," stated chief executive Neill Blake.

"He is a young talent with significant potential, and we are pleased to have successfully navigated considerable competition to secure his signing."

Araujo has represented the United States at the youth level and earned one senior cap before opting to represent Mexico in 2021.

"We are confident that we possess the resources necessary for Julian to enhance the skills he already possesses, and we eagerly anticipate his arrival at Vitality Stadium," Blake added.

Bournemouth will commence their Premier League season against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
