Brentford 0-2 Nottingham Forest: Forest hand Bees first home defeat of season to climb to third

Nottingham Forest delivered a remarkable away performance, securing a 2-0 victory over Brentford. This win not only solidified their position in the top four as Christmas approaches but also marked Brentford's first home defeat of the Premier League season.

Following a loss to Newcastle United in the EFL Cup quarter-finals, Brentford returned to the familiar surroundings of the Gtech Community Stadium, where they had previously dropped only two points in their first eight home league matches.

Mikkel Damsgaard nearly set the tone for the hosts with a threatening attempt that forced Matz Sels into action within the first five minutes.

After weathering that initial challenge, Forest gradually found their rhythm in the first half, with the in-form Chris Wood forcing a commendable save from Mark Flekken just after the half-hour mark.

While Flekken managed to thwart Wood’s header, he was powerless to stop Ola Aina from scoring in the 38th minute. The 28-year-old executed a first-time finish after connecting with a low cross from fellow wing-back Neco Williams, granting the visitors a half-time lead for the first time in a Premier League away match this season.

Carrying their momentum into the second half, Forest needed only six minutes to extend their lead due to a defensive lapse. Anthony Elanga capitalized on Keane Lewis-Potter’s miscontrol, maneuvering across the box to find the angle for a precise shot into the bottom corner.

With Brentford's unbeaten home record at stake, Ajer sought to reduce the deficit shortly after the hour mark, but his powerful strike was expertly saved by Sels’ quick reflexes.

Regrettably for the home supporters, a late comeback was not in the cards, as the resolute Forest defense maintained their advantage, culminating in a third consecutive victory.

As a result, the visitors ascended to third place ahead of Arsenal's match against Crystal Palace, while Brentford fell to 12th position following their inaugural Premier League defeat to Nottingham Forest.
