Brest Takes Top Spot with 1-0 Win Over Struggling Lyon

Brest claimed the coveted top spot in Ligue 1 standings with a 1-0 victory over struggling Lyon, thanks to a late header by substitute Steve Mounie.

New Lyon coach Fabio Grosso couldn't ignite a turnaround in his debut match, and the seven-time champions remained without a win, suffering their fourth defeat in six league games. Grosso took the reins from Laurent Blanc.

Lyon found themselves on the defensive from the beginning, with Jeremy Le Douaron coming close to breaking the deadlock in the 24th minute. Despite several saves by Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes to keep his team in the game, he couldn't prevent Mounie's 87th-minute header from Kenny Lala's cross.

This result propelled Brest one point ahead of Nice, securing their top spot in the standings. Remarkably, it was the first time since the 2010-11 season that the small Brittany-based team had reached the league's summit.

In an earlier match on Saturday, Nantes secured their second victory of the season with a thrilling 5-3 win against Lorient. The highlight of the French football weekend awaits on Sunday as defending champion PSG hosts Marseille, setting the stage for France's most anticipated showdown.
