Brighton 0-0 Brentford: Seagulls' winless run continues with goalless draw with Bees

Brentford secured only their second away point of the season, extending Brighton and Hove Albion’s winless streak to six matches with a goalless draw at the Amex Stadium.

In his first league start of the season, Julio Enciso nearly put the hosts ahead within four minutes; however, despite having a clear opportunity, his well-placed shot hit the post after Mark Flekken had carelessly surrendered possession.

The Bees' goalkeeper soon redeemed himself by making an excellent save from Carlos Baleba’s powerful, low shot, followed by a more routine stop from Enciso shortly thereafter.

At the opposite end, Yoane Wissa experienced disappointment when his strong finish was disallowed by VAR due to a marginal offside.

Following that near miss, Fabian Hurzeler’s team quickly resumed their offensive efforts, but both Brajan Gruda and Matt O’Riley were denied in their attempts to score, with O’Riley forcing a commendable save from Flekken.

Unfortunately, O’Riley then limped off the field, potentially adding to the already extensive injury list that Thomas Frank was managing.

Kaoru Mitoma struck the side netting with what turned out to be the last opportunity before halftime, and he had two additional attempts cleared after the break.

By this stage, Brentford—who have suffered seven losses in their eight away league matches this season—had regained some momentum.

Wissa had one powerful shot blocked and another weaker attempt comfortably saved, with these efforts occurring around a clever scissor kick from Christian Norgaard that narrowly missed the target.

As the match approached its conclusion, fog rolled in from the Sussex coastline, and the lack of creativity from the home side in the final third led many supporters to leave early.

This indicates that they overlooked Solly March's return after a 14-month injury absence, in addition to Bart Verbruggen's impressive save from Mikkel Damsgaard.

The two teams ended their second goalless draw of 2024, having previously played to a 0-0 stalemate at the Gtech Community Stadium in April.
