Brighton 1-1 Arsenal: Joao Pedro cool from the spot as Seagulls dent Gunners' title hopes

Arsenal faced Brighton in a Premier League match at the AMEX Stadium, resulting in a 1-1 draw that extended their unbeaten streak in away league games to six. However, this outcome cost them two crucial points in the title race.

Both teams enjoyed periods of possession early on, but it was Arsenal who capitalized first with a significant opportunity. Mikel Merino delivered a precise through ball to Ethan Nwaneri, who, at just 17 years old, calmly finished beneath Bart Verbruggen into the bottom corner.

Brighton had a chance to equalize before the half-time whistle, but Simon Adingra failed to convert, sending Matt O’Riley’s pass wide from a favorable position.

Arsenal continued to press, with Nwaneri nearly doubling his tally when his corner kick struck the outside of the post. Gabriel Jesus also missed a chance, heading another corner over the bar, with Declan Rice providing the assist.

Early in the second half, Arsenal had another set-piece opportunity, but Merino misfired, sending the ball wide when he should have done better after connecting with Rice’s cross.

Just minutes later, Brighton capitalized on Arsenal's missed chance. A penalty was awarded when William Saliba inadvertently headbutted Joao Pedro while attempting to clear the ball. Pedro took the penalty himself, deceiving David Raya and placing the ball into the top corner.

With renewed confidence, Brighton's substitutes Yankuba Minteh and Kaoru Mitoma nearly turned the tide, as Minteh delivered a dangerous ball across the goal.

Both teams maintained their positions for a point during a tense final few minutes, resulting in Brighton remaining without a victory in eight league matches. Arsenal, on the other hand, had to accept yet another unsatisfactory draw against the Seagulls, mirroring the scoreline from their previous encounter.
