Brighton 4-2 Tottenham: Joao Pedro double secures victory for hosts in six-goal thriller

Brighton & Hove Albion continued their impressive unbeaten streak at the Amex Stadium, defeating Tottenham Hotspur in a thrilling six-goal match. Joao Pedro played a pivotal role, scoring two goals and providing an assist.
With Brighton still in search of their first clean sheet of the season, and the visitors only managing one shutout in their last eight matches, it was expected that the game would be action-packed from the start. And true enough, within minutes of kick-off, that expectation was met.
Danny Welbeck made two attempts on goal, but Guglielmo Vicario made impressive saves to deny him. However, it didn't take much longer for the Italian goalkeeper to be beaten.
Joao Pedro skillfully maneuvered past several challenges from the Tottenham players and set up Jack Hinshelwood, who unleashed a powerful shot into the top corner of the net. This goal marked Hinshelwood's second consecutive home Premier League start with a goal.
Tottenham struggled to respond, and Jean Paul van Hecke came close to scoring with a header that hit the woodwork. The resulting play led to a penalty for Dejan Kulusevski's foul on Welbeck, giving Brighton an opportunity to extend their lead.
Joao Pedro confidently converted the penalty, doubling the hosts' advantage. The pressure continued as James Milner cut inside and curled a shot against the post, narrowly missing out on his first-ever goal for Brighton - a significant moment as it was exactly 21 years since he scored his first home Premier League goal.
Vicario made another impressive save to deny João Pedro a third goal on a breakaway, and in the second half, Tottenham showed their determination to respond with Richarlison's shot grazing the post.
The away team's Brazilian player persistently knocked on the door after half-time, managing to score twice early in the second half. However, both goals were disallowed due to offside. The situation worsened for Ange Postecoglou's team when substitute Pervis Estupinan, who had returned from injury, scored a remarkable dipping strike from almost 30 yards out, adding to their troubles.
This goal significantly affected Tottenham's morale, and a fatigued challenge by Giovani Lo Celso on Evan Ferguson resulted in a penalty being awarded. Referee Jarred Gillett pointed to the spot for the second time, and João Pedro confidently converted from 12 yards.
Despite this setback, Tottenham managed to maintain their record of scoring in each of their previous 30 league matches. Alejo Veliz, who came off the bench, capitalized on Son Heung-min's creative play to score one back, followed by Ben Davies heading in a second goal in quick succession at the far post.
In stoppage time, Tottenham launched an onslaught on the Brighton box, but despite Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg hitting the post, they were unable to find another goal. As a result, their previous three-game winning streak came to an abrupt end.
