Browns beat Jets to clinch first NFL play-off berth since 2020

Deshaun Watson's season-ending shoulder injury in November seemed to dim the Browns' chances of making it to the post-season. However, with the addition of former Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco as their fourth starting quarterback this season, the Browns have turned their fortunes around.

Under Flacco's leadership, the team has achieved a 4-1 record and an overall season record of 11-5. With a wild card spot secured, the Browns still have an opportunity to win the AFC North division, which is currently led by the Baltimore Ravens.

Browns coach Kevin Stefanski expressed his confidence in Flacco, acknowledging that the veteran quarterback still has plenty to offer. In their latest game, Flacco threw for 309 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception.

He connected with Jerome Ford for two touchdown passes in the first half, contributing to the Browns' commanding 34-14 lead.

Flacco's performance against his former team, the New York Jets, was particularly impressive. Despite spending three seasons with the Jets before parting ways, Flacco showed no hard feelings and delivered an outstanding performance, amassing 296 yards in the first half alone.

Coach Stefanski praised Flacco's determination and ability to execute the team's game plan while also making crucial plays. The Browns' offense also saw contributions from Elijah Moore, another former Jet, who caught an eight-yard touchdown before leaving the game with a concussion.

Kareem Hunt added a seven-yard touchdown run, and tight end David Njoku had an exceptional first quarter with four catches for 114 yards, finishing the game with six receptions for 134 yards.

Although Flacco did throw an interception in the second quarter, resulting in a Jets touchdown, the Browns' defense also made significant contributions.

Safety Ronnie Hickman intercepted Jets quarterback Trevor Siemian and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown, further solidifying the Browns' dominance in the game.

In his second consecutive start, Siemian took over for Zach Wilson, who was unable to play due to a concussion. Siemian showcased his skills by completing 32 out of 45 passes, accumulating 261 yards, and securing one touchdown.
