Burna Boy to headline AFCON 2025 Fan Zone Finale in Rabat

Grammy Award-winning Nigerian superstar Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, will headline the grand finale of the TotalEnergies AFCON 2025 Fan Zone Concert in Rabat, Morocco, as the continent prepares to close another memorable Africa Cup of Nations.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed the development via its official X account, announcing a star-studded lineup for what has been tagged “The AFCON Last Dance.”
According to CAF, Burna Boy will share the stage with Stormzy, Stonebwoy, and Jaylann at the OLM Souissi Fan Zone in Rabat on Friday, January 16, 2026, with performances scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m. local time.
The concert serves as the final major cultural event of AFCON 2025, reinforcing CAF’s growing strategy of pairing elite football with global music acts to amplify the tournament’s international appeal.
AFCON 2025: Football meets Music
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which kicked off on December 21, 2025, has featured music prominently across its official events. The opening ceremony in Rabat set the tone, with Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido performing alongside French Montana and Moroccan producer RedOne shortly before Morocco’s opening match against Comoros at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
CAF described Davido’s inclusion as symbolic of the tournament’s identity, citing his role in projecting African music onto the world stage and aligning its celebratory energy with the spirit of AFCON.
The Fan Zone finale now continues that narrative, with Burna Boy — one of Africa’s most globally recognised musicians — taking centre stage as the tournament reaches its decisive phase.
Timing amid Nigeria’s AFCON Exit
The finale concert comes just days after tournament hosts Morocco eliminated Nigeria from the competition in a tense semi-final encounter in Rabat. After 120 goalless minutes, the Atlas Lions edged the Super Eagles 4–2 on penalties.
Despite goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali saving one spot kick, missed efforts from Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno Onyemaechi proved costly, before Youssef En-Nesyri converted the decisive penalty for Morocco.
Nigeria will now face Egypt in the third-place match on Saturday, January 17, at the Mohammed V Stadium, with kick-off set for 11:00 a.m. ET.
Meanwhile, Morocco will meet Senegal in the AFCON 2025 final on Sunday, January 18, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, as the hosts chase their first continental title since 1976.
Nigeria’s growing cultural footprint at Global Events
Burna Boy’s AFCON appearance further underlines the growing influence of Nigerian artistes at major international sporting and cultural events.
In recent years, Nigerian musicians such as Wizkid, Rema, Tiwa Savage, CKay, and Patoranking have featured prominently on global stages, often intersecting with football and major sports ceremonies.
Wizkid made history in July 2023 by becoming the first African artiste to headline Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, performing before nearly 45,000 fans. Earlier that same year, he also became the first African musician to top the bill at the Glastonbury Festival.
Tiwa Savage represented Nigeria at the coronation concert of King Charles III in 2023, while Rema broke new ground by performing his global hit Calm Down at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris, becoming the first Nigerian artiste to do so.
With Burna Boy now set to close AFCON 2025’s cultural programme, Nigerian music once again takes a prominent role on a major football stage, reinforcing Africa’s expanding influence beyond the pitch.
