Carlos Alcaraz destroys Felix Auger-Aliassime to reach Olympic final

As the second seed, Alcaraz aims to secure the Olympic gold medal to complement his recent triumphs at the French Open and Wimbledon, showcasing his formidable skills on Court Philippe Chatrier.

The match took a decisive turn when Auger-Aliassime committed a double fault, granting an early service break to Alcaraz, who maintained relentless pressure throughout the contest, concluding the match in just over an hour.

Alcaraz is set to compete against either the top seed Novak Djokovic or Italian Lorenzo Musetti in the gold medal match scheduled for Sunday, with their semi-final taking place later on Friday.

"I maintained a very high level of play from start to finish," Alcaraz remarked to Eurosport's Alex Corretja on the court, noting his sharper performance compared to his quarter-final against Tommy Paul.

"Winning a gold medal was one of my goals at the beginning of the year, and now we have this one match to achieve it, and I intend to enjoy it.

"This is a significant moment for my team, my family, and the Spanish people, and I am determined to succeed."

Auger-Aliassime sought to become the first Canadian to reach an Olympic singles final, employing every tactic at his disposal against Alcaraz, only to find his efforts met with equal intensity.

"Whether it was the forehand, the forehand inside-out, or the backhand, I was outmatched in every aspect, including movement and defense; there is little more to add," he stated.

Despite the defeat, Auger-Aliassime still has the opportunity to secure two medals, as he will participate in the bronze medal match in mixed doubles alongside Gabriela Dabrowski.
