Carlos Alcaraz eases past Norrie to reach Wimbledon semifinals

Carlos Alcaraz is marching toward another Wimbledon crown with the poise and precision of a player far beyond his 21 years. On Tuesday evening, the reigning champion and second seed cruised into the Wimbledon 2025 semifinals after dismantling Britain’s Cameron Norrie 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 in a performance that blended flair, firepower, and ruthless efficiency.

Alcaraz reaches eighth Grand Slam Semifinal, eyes Wimbledon Hat-Trick

With his straight-sets win on Centre Court, Alcaraz booked his eighth career Grand Slam semifinal and moved one step closer to defending his Wimbledon title for a third consecutive year. The Spaniard has now extended his winning streak to 23 consecutive matches and boasts a staggering 34 wins from 37 career matches on grass.

The match was expected to test Alcaraz’s form, especially against the left-handed and unorthodox Norrie, who had nothing to lose. But despite an early hiccup, facing 0-40 in his first service game, Alcaraz found his rhythm and never looked back, blitzing through the first set in just 28 minutes.

Clinical and Creative: Alcaraz Turns on the Style

While many fans were still trickling back to their seats after Aryna Sabalenka’s dramatic women’s quarterfinal, Alcaraz wasted no time asserting his authority on Centre Court. His forehand punished anything short, his volleys were sharp, and his signature drop shots kept Norrie scrambling.

The Brit did his best to disrupt Alcaraz’s rhythm, offering glimpses of resistance with strong holds late in the third set. But it was all too little, too late. A double fault in the second set and a misjudged volley in the third gave the world No. 2 just enough openings to wrap things up in commanding fashion.

Norrie Falls Short, British Hopes End

Cameron Norrie, who reached the semifinals in 2022, was Britain’s last hope in the singles draw. After knocking out Oliver Tarvet earlier in the tournament, he hoped to become just the third British player ever to defeat a defending Wimbledon men’s champion.

However, Norrie’s inability to capitalize on break points and Alcaraz’s sharp rise in intensity meant the home crowd had little to celebrate beyond Norrie’s cheeky mock-celebration after a rare hold in the third set.

Next: Alcaraz vs Taylor Fritz

Up next for Alcaraz is a semifinal showdown against American No. 1 Taylor Fritz, who has also impressed in his run to the last four. Their head-to-head history and contrasting styles promise a gripping encounter, but with Alcaraz hitting top gear, the odds firmly favor the Spaniard.

"I’m really happy with the level I played today against a really difficult player like Cam," Alcaraz told the crowd post-match. "To be able to play another semi-final here at Wimbledon is really special. I want to go as far as I can."

What’s Next Off-Court? Golf & Downtime

Thanks to Wimbledon’s mid-week schedule, Alcaraz has two days of rest before Friday’s semifinal. Rather than returning to Ibiza — the island where he famously celebrated his French Open triumph — the 21-year-old revealed plans for a more low-key reset:

“I might try to go to the city centre if I have time. I want to play some golf with my team, which will be fun. What I have been doing so far has worked, so we’ll try to switch off together.”
