Celta Vigo 2-2 Barcelona: Celta fight back from two down to hold 10-man Barca

A pair of rapid late goals enabled Celta Vigo to recover from a two-goal deficit and secure a 2-2 draw against LaLiga leaders Barcelona at the Estadio de Balaidos, marking the first draw of the season for the Catalan team.
After a contentious defeat to Real Sociedad prior to the international break, Barcelona aimed to rebound but faced formidable resistance from Celta, a team against which they had only achieved two victories in their last ten encounters (D4, L4) before this match.
The home team began the match with vigor, creating two opportunities within the first five minutes. The initial chance came when Iago Aspas was found unmarked in the penalty area, but the Celta captain failed to convert. Anastasios Douvikas also squandered a close-range header shortly thereafter.
The hosts' early misses proved costly as Barcelona took the lead in the 15th minute.
A long pass from Jules Kounde set Raphinha free on goal, and the Brazilian executed a superb cutback before finishing, marking his 13th goal of the season across all competitions.
Claudio Giraldez’s side continued to press and managed to penetrate Barcelona’s defense several times after falling behind. Robert Lewandowski found the net before halftime, but his chip over Vicente Guaita was disallowed for offside.
Both teams struggled to maintain the same level of intensity after the break, resulting in a slow-paced second half for much of the period.
It was not until the 61st minute that the first shot on target was recorded in the second half, and in characteristic Lewandowski style, he made it count, extending Barcelona’s lead.
Raphinha intercepted the ball at the halfway line and delivered a pass to the Polish striker, who deftly slotted the ball past a Celta defender into the net.
Alfonso Gonzalez had the opportunity to reduce the deficit shortly thereafter when he was played in on the left flank, but his attempt was easily collected by Inaki Pena. Raphinha nearly secured the victory in the 77th minute after receiving a pass from Dani Olmo, yet his shot struck the post.
Just as Barcelona appeared to be in control, a series of events in the following four minutes dramatically altered the match. First, Marc Casado received a red card in the 82nd minute for a second yellow card.
Celta capitalized on their numerical advantage by narrowing the gap when Gonzalez intercepted Kounde and scored.
Remarkably, the home side equalized shortly after, as Hugo Alvarez displayed remarkable poise to maneuver and slot the ball into the far corner.
Clearly taken aback, Barcelona found themselves desperately holding on for a draw, while Celta emerged as the stronger side.
Once again, the Blaugrana faced difficulties in Vigo, providing Real Madrid with a chance to reduce the gap when they face Leganes on Sunday.
Celta remains unbeaten in their last four matches, with Os Celestes set to encounter another Catalan team next week as they visit RCD Espanyol.
