Celtic sign Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel on one-year deal

The Danish captain, who recently participated in the European Championship, has joined Celtic as a free agent following his time with Anderlecht in Belgium last season.

Schmeichel had a stint with Ligue 1 club Nice during the 2022-23 season after a successful period at Leicester City, where he secured the Premier League title in 2016 and the FA Cup in 2021. With 479 appearances for the Foxes over 11 seasons, he currently ranks third in Leicester's all-time appearance list.

Having made his international debut in 2013, Schmeichel has represented Denmark in 105 matches. Expressing his excitement about the move, Schmeichel stated, "I am absolutely thrilled to be joining Celtic and eager to begin this new chapter."

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, who previously coached Leicester, expressed his satisfaction with the signing, saying, "I am delighted to have Kasper on board. He is a top-class goalkeeper with the skills and character to make a significant impact."

Schmeichel will link up with Celtic during their pre-season tour in the United States before their Scottish Premiership opener against Kilmarnock on August 4th.
