Champions League round-up: PSG and Porto advance; Milan eliminate Newcastle; Barca stunned

The race for the final two places among the elite in the UEFA Champions League knockout stage came down to the wire, with Porto and Paris Saint-Germain rounding out the last-16 line-up. Antwerp finished with a famous win over a Barcelona team that finished first in their group, as did Atlético Madrid and Dortmund.

Here's how the action unfolded

Dortmund 1-1 PSG

Scorers: Adeyemi 52′, Zaïre-Emery 55′

Paris advanced to the last 16 in dramatic fashion, holding on for a point to edge Milan on head-to-head record.

After a string of missed chances in the first half, Karim Adeyemi scored for the hosts shortly after the restart, only for Warren Zare-Emery to level almost immediately.

With a fine finish, Kylian Mbappé thought he had sealed the game and group, but his effort was disallowed, and Paris finished second behind Dortmund instead.

Newcastle 1-2 Milan

Scorers: Joelinton 33′, Pulisic 58′, Chukwueze 83′

Milan advanced to the UEFA Europa League knockout round play-offs thanks to Samuel Chukwueze's 84th-minute goal, defeating a Newcastle side that started the night with last-16 aspirations.

Joelinton scored for the hosts in the 33rd minute, only for Christian Pulišić to equalize just before the hour.

Mike Maignan then turned Bruno Guimarães' effort against the crossbar before substitute Chukwueze's winner. Rafael Leão and Fikayo Tomori came close late for the visitors.

Porto 5-3 Shakhtar Donetsk

Scorers: Galeno 9′, 43′, Taremi 63′, Pepe 76′, Conceição 82′; Sikan 29′, Eustáquio (OG) 72′, Eguinaldo 88′

A match billed as a head-to-head battle for a last-16 spot did not disappoint.

Porto were in command from the moment Galeno's second of the night made it 2-1 before the break, restoring the lead after Danylo Sikan's controversial equaliser and Mehdi Taremi's powerful shot early in the second half gave them a cushion.

Although Stephen Eustáquio's own goal made it 3-2, Pepe and Francisco Conceiço calmed Porto nerves before Eguinaldo's late consolation.

Antwerp 3-2 Barcelona

Scorers: Vermeeren 2′, Janssen 56′, Ilenikhena 90+2′; Torres 36′, Guiu 90+1′

George Ilenikhena, 17, finished a one-on-one in extra time to give Antwerp a famous victory.

Barcelona's late pressure paid off when their own young forward, Marc Guiu, tied the game at 2-2 with his first Champions League goal, but the game ended as it had begun.

After 90 seconds, Arthur Vermeeren scored, Ferran Torres equalized, and Vincent Janssen scored his first Champions League goal to set up the grandstand finale.

Atlético Madrid 2-0 Lazio

Scorers: Griezmann 6′, Lino 51′

With a convincing win, Atlético Madrid clinched first place in Group E. The hosts got off to a flying start thanks to Antoine Griezmann's fifth Champions League goal of the season, which he finished coolly after good work from Samuel Lino.

Lino scored a superb second six minutes into the second half, and Álvaro Morata could have added another as Atleti proved too strong for the runners-up.

Celtic 2-1 Feyenoord

Scorers: Palma (PEN) 33′, Lagerbielke 90+1′; Minteh 83′

Celtic bowed out of Europe on a high note by ending a ten-year wait for a Champions League victory on home soil.

After Ramiz Zerrouki brought down Liam Scales, Celtic took the lead through Luis Palma's penalty kick in the 33rd minute.

Yankuba Minteh equalized for the visitors with eight minutes remaining before substitute Gustaf Lagerbielke, who was sent off in the previous match, nodded in an extra-time winner.

Red Star Belgrade 2-3 Man City

Scorers: Hwang 76′, Katai 90+1′; Hamilton 20′, Bobb 62′, Phillips (PEN) 85′

Pep Guardiola's men finished Group G with a perfect record after victory in Belgrade.

Debutant Micah Hamilton scored his first goal for City after 19 minutes, with fellow 20-year-old Oscar Bobb adding an impressive second after a mazy run just after the hour.

After a frantic finish in which Inbeom Hwang's low finish and Aleksandar Katai's header came either side of Kalvin Phillips' cool spot kick for the holders, City held on in the end.

RB Leipzig 2-1 Young Boys

Scorers: Šeško 51′, Forsberg 56′; Colley 52′

Even before the game began, Leipzig and Young Boys were assured of second and third place, respectively, but if the first half lacked intensity, the exhausting, end-to-end second more than made up for it.

All three goals came within a six-minute span following the restart.
Benjamin Šeško's clinical finish broke the deadlock, and while Ebrima Colley responded almost immediately on the counter, Emil Forsberg soon delivered what would prove to be the decisive blow.
