Champions League Update: Manchester City, Leipzig Secure Knockout Stage, Pepe and Giroud Shine as Veterans

In an exhilarating night of European soccer, seasoned players took center stage as Manchester City and Leipzig effortlessly advanced to the Champions League knockout stage with two matches to spare.

The Oldest Scorer

Pepe, the venerable Porto defender, etched his name into history as the oldest scorer in the Champions League. At the age of 40 years and 254 days, Pepe rose in the box and headed home Porto's second goal, sealing a 2-0 victory over Antwerp. His historic feat surpasses Roma's Francesco Totti, who previously held the record with a goal at the age of 38 years and 59 days in 2014.

Olivier Giroud Shines

Another football sage, Olivier Giroud, was the hero of the night at San Siro stadium. Aged 37 years and 38 days, Giroud became the oldest French goalscorer in the competition, surpassing Laurent Blanc. AC Milan notched its first win and goals of the season in the Champions League, defeating Paris Saint-Germain 2-1. Rafael Leao scored Milan's other goal, and the result opened up Group F with Milan trailing leaders Borussia Dortmund by three points.

Manchester City extended its unbeaten home run in the Champions League with a 3-0 win over Young Boys, securing their place in the knockout stage. Erling Haaland netted two goals, and Phil Foden added another. City currently sits atop Group G.

German side Leipzig fought hard to secure a 2-1 victory against Red Star Belgrade, ensuring their spot in the next round. Goals from Xavi Simons and Loïs Openda secured back-to-back victories for Leipzig over the Serbian champion, positioning them three points behind Manchester City in the group.

In Group E, 33-year-old Ciro Immobile, Lazio's captain, scored his 200th goal for the club, rekindling Lazio's hopes of advancing with a 1-0 win over Feyenoord. Lazio now holds second place in Group E, with Atletico Madrid leading the group. Dutch champions Feyenoord still have a chance in third place, while Celtic trails behind with one point.

These seasoned players showcased their enduring skill and experience on a memorable night in the Champions League, as Manchester City and Leipzig moved a step closer to European glory.
