Chelsea 1-2 Fulham: Blues' title hopes suffer major setback as Cottagers complete stunning comeback victory

A dramatic stoppage-time goal allowed Fulham to overturn a deficit and secure a 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League, thereby ending the Blues' impressive 12-match unbeaten streak across all competitions.
The home side had the chance to apply pressure on Liverpool, who sit atop the league, following a goalless draw against Everton last weekend, which halted their own eight-match winning streak in all competitions. Nevertheless, Chelsea remained in second place and had the opportunity to narrow the gap to just one point, at least temporarily.
Fulham, on the other hand, is experiencing a remarkable season, having accumulated a club-record 25 points from 17 Premier League matches. They registered the first shot on target through Raúl Jiménez, whose long-range effort was comfortably saved by Robert Sánchez.
Cole Palmer has frequently been a key player for Chelsea, and he showcased his talent by scoring the opening goal around the 15-minute mark. After collecting the ball 40 yards from goal, he skillfully maneuvered past two defenders before placing a shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area.
This marked his 12th league goal of the season and his 26th in 2024, making him the highest scorer for the club since Bobby Tambling, who netted 27 goals in 1966.
Despite falling behind, Fulham responded positively, with Calvin Bassey testing Sánchez with a low shot. A crucial save from Bernd Leno prevented Marc Cucurella from extending Chelsea's lead just before halftime.
The second half began with Enzo Maresca’s team on the front foot, as Leno made a fingertip save to deny Enzo Fernández. Chelsea thought they had scored through Levi Colwill, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
Fulham continued to press, with Alex Iwobi narrowly missing the target and Antonee Robinson forcing Sánchez into a close-range save. The visitors displayed determination and tenacity throughout the second half, ultimately earning their equalizer as the match neared its conclusion.
A cross from Robinson into the penalty area was met with a header from Rodrigo Muniz, which enabled fellow substitute Harry Wilson to direct the ball over the goal line.
Just when it appeared that the match would end in a draw, the Cottagers delivered a decisive blow in the final moments, as Muniz completed a rapid counter-attack to secure the visitors' first victory at this venue since 1979.
This result represents a significant setback for Chelsea's title aspirations, reinforcing Maresca's assertion that his team is not yet prepared for a challenge at the top of the league.
On the other hand, Fulham fully merited the three points and have now suffered only one defeat in their last ten league encounters—Marco Silva deserves considerable recognition for the excellent work he is accomplishing in Southwest London.
