Chelsea 2-4 Wolves: Cunha hits hat-trick in Wolves demolition of Blues at Stamford Bridge

Matheus Cunha, aged 24, showcased his brilliance by scoring a remarkable hat-trick in the Premier League, leading Wolverhampton Wanderers to a stunning comeback victory against Chelsea. This triumph also marked the first time since the 1974/75 season that Wolves achieved a league double over the Blues.
In an attempt to secure their fifth consecutive league victory at Stamford Bridge, a feat they haven't achieved since July 2020, Chelsea started the contest tentatively, relinquishing possession and allowing Pedro Neto and Matheus Cunha to take early shots on target.
However, the Blues managed to shake off their initial rustiness, with Christopher Nkunku coming close to scoring before Cole Palmer capitalized on Moises Caicedo's defense-splitting pass to give Chelsea the lead.
Unfortunately, the £115 million man quickly turned from hero to villain, losing the ball in midfield and allowing a counterattack that resulted in a deflected Cunha effort, equalizing the score.
Just before halftime, Mauricio Pochettino's team suffered another blow as Neto's cutback found Rayan Ait-Nouri, who scored from close range with the help of another deflection, marking his 100th appearance for Wolves with a goal.
Although Chelsea struggled to threaten Jose Sa in the visitors' goal after conceding the equalizer, they came out with renewed attacking vigor in the second half.
Raheem Sterling missed a golden opportunity to score when he failed to convert Ben Chillwell's lay-off, allowing Wolves to regain momentum.
In search of a breakthrough, Pochettino brought on Nicolas Jackson, but it was Wolves who extended their lead shortly after his introduction.
Once again, Neto proved to be a handful for the Chelsea defense, setting up Cunha for his second goal of the day.
Despite Jackson's missed chance to reduce the deficit with a header, Cunha sealed the game from the penalty spot, taking advantage of Malo Gusto's reckless challenge.
A late consolation goal from Thiago Silva's header did little to alter the outcome, as Wolves secured all three points, bouncing back from their heartbreaking 4-3 loss to Manchester United with only their second away win in seven Premier League fixtures.
In the meantime, Chelsea experienced their first loss at home against Wolves since March 1979 (W8, D4), further disappointing their fans. This defeat caused them to drop to 11th place in the league, trailing their recent conquerors by just one point.
