Chelsea overtakes Real Madrid to become World’s Most Valuable Football Squad

Chelsea have officially been named the most valuable football squad in the world, surpassing Real Madrid, according to a new report by the Swiss-based CIES Football Observatory.

The London club’s current roster, managed by Enzo Maresca, is valued at an eye-watering £1.56 billion — around £100 million more than second-placed Real Madrid.

Since the Todd Boehly-led consortium took over in 2022, Chelsea have spent close to £1.5 billion on player transfers, with marquee additions including João Pedro, Estevão Willian, Alejandro Garnacho, Liam Delap, and Jamie Gittens. Despite offsetting some of that spending through sales, the squad’s total market value has risen by £315 million over the past year.

Premier League Dominance in Global Rankings

The CIES report highlights the financial muscle of English football, with seven Premier League teams ranking inside the top 12 and all 20 clubs appearing in the world’s top 60.

Manchester City sit third with a squad value of £1.28 billion, followed closely by Arsenal in fourth. Liverpool rank sixth at £1.21 billion, just behind Paris Saint-Germain, while Tottenham Hotspur round out the top eight with £907 million, placing them ahead of Bayern Munich and Inter Milan.

This dominance underlines the Premier League’s unmatched financial ecosystem, boosted by global broadcasting deals and commercial revenue streams that continue to outpace Europe’s other top leagues.

Chelsea’s On-Field Progress Under Maresca

While Chelsea’s financial value soars, the club is still finding its rhythm on the pitch. The Blues currently sit seventh in the Premier League table after seven matches, though a recent 2–1 win over Liverpool, sealed by a late strike from teenage star Estevão — offered a glimpse of the potential within Maresca’s young, dynamic squad.

With a balance of high-priced prospects and established internationals, Chelsea’s valuation reflects both their spending power and their growing reputation as a hub for elite youth talent.
