Chelsea's Fernandez to miss rest of season after groin surgery

Enzo Fernandez, the 23-year-old Chelsea midfielder, will be out for the rest of the season due to a groin injury that required surgery.

This setback comes after Fernandez struggled to make an impact in the recent 5-0 defeat against Arsenal. It is uncertain whether he will recover in time for the Copa America in June.

Unfortunately, Fernandez is just one of many Chelsea players who have been plagued by injuries this season, contributing to the club's disappointing performance in the Premier League.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino has had to deal with a significant number of unavailable players, resulting in Chelsea's current ninth-place position. The team's recent loss to Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final has only added to the mounting pressure on Pochettino.

Since joining Chelsea from Benfica for a record-breaking fee of £107 million in January 2023, Fernandez has made 28 league appearances and scored three goals.

The club has confirmed that Fernandez underwent a successful surgery and will now begin his rehabilitation under the guidance of the medical department at Cobham.
