Chen and Jia win badminton gold in all-Chinese women's doubles final

The bronze medal was claimed by Japan's Chiharu Shida and Nami Matsuyama, who achieved victory against Malaysia's Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan earlier in the day.
The final match commenced with intense energy, featuring a series of powerful smashes from Liu and Tan right from the first serve. However, Chen and Jia, who emerged victorious with scores of 22-20 and 21-15, demonstrated their status as world number one by overcoming their third-ranked opponents.
Following the conclusion of the match, both teams shared joyful moments, embracing one another while wrapped in a Chinese flag.
This victory marked China's second gold medal in badminton at the Paris Games, having previously won the mixed doubles final on Friday. Since badminton's introduction to the Olympics in 1992 in Barcelona, China has secured a total of 20 gold medals in the sport.
Japan's Shida and Matsuyama secured the bronze with a decisive 21-11, 21-11 victory over Malaysia's Tan and Muralitharan.
In the women's singles quarterfinals earlier that day, defending Olympic champion and world number two Chen Yufei was defeated by her compatriot He Bingjiao, who won with scores of 21-16 and 21-17 in a stadium that was notably quiet, as many Chinese spectators refrained from showing support for either player.
In another match, Thailand's Ratchanok Intanon faced off against world number eight Gregoria Tunjung of Indonesia in a closely contested battle before Tunjung took control, winning 25-23, 21-9. This match showcased an array of impressive backhands, delicate net play, and precisely targeted smashes.
Tunjung remains the last hope for Indonesia in the Paris Games, as the nation has secured medals in every Olympics since badminton's inclusion, with the exception of the London Games.
Tunjung expressed the weight of being the last Indonesian player, but she emphasized her focus on playing for herself and giving her best effort. An Seyoung, South Korea's last hope, faced a tough start but managed to turn the game around and secure a spot in the semi-finals. She is determined to maintain her performance for the final match and is proud of her performance in the quarter-finals. Carolina Marin of Spain also secured a victory in the quarterfinals, defeating Japan's Aya Ohori in straight sets.
