China Open Day 5 Roundup: Swiatek, Rybakina advance, Ostapenko stuns Pegula

Iga Swiatek advanced to the China Open quarterfinals with a straight-sets victory over Magda Linette.
Eyeing her first WTA 1000 title of the year, the French Open champion dispatched her fellow Pole 6-1 6-1. The second seed immediately made her move with a love hold before converting her third break point to open up an early lead.
She quickly built a double-break lead in the first set, threatening to rack up her 21st bagel of 2023. Linette did finally get on the board with an impressive love hold, but Swiatek finished the set on her serve.
The writing was on the wall after her third break at the start of the second, and Swiatek showed no mercy by securing a second break to go 3-0 up.
Swiatek continued to dominate, and a final decisive break secured victory in 66 minutes. She will now face the winner of the match between Caroline Garcia and Anhelina Kalinina.

Rybakina in action against Andreeva
The fifth seed Elena Rybakina battled back from a set down to avoid becoming the latest victim of Mirra Andreeva in Beijing.
The 16-year-old, who had already defeated Barbora Krejcikova and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova this tournament, was up by a set and a break before the 2022 Wimbledon champion battled back to win 2-6 6-4 6-1.
The teenager broke her opponent in the first game of the match, putting her Kazakhstani opponent on the back foot immediately, and a crucial second break for 5-2 allowed her to serve out the first set.
Rybakina saved two break points at the start of the second set and appeared to be in trouble when Andreeva broke and took a 4-2 lead with a love hold.
Rybakina, however, demonstrated exceptional resiliency by winning four games in a row to take the second set, before racing to a 4-0 lead in the third, losing only one point along the way.
Andreeva scored after saving a match point to avoid a shutout, but Rybakina held on to win and set up a potential showdown with No. 1 seed Aryna Sabalenka, who faces Italian Jasmine Paolini on Thursday.
