Cleveland Cavaliers handed the Detroit Pistons their 17th straight loss

In a hard-fought game on Saturday, Max Strus and Darius Garland both delivered impressive performances with 22 points each, leading the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 110-101 victory over the struggling Detroit Pistons, who now face their 17th consecutive loss. Strus, emphasizing the physicality of the match, acknowledged the Pistons' efforts and resilience on the court.
The Pistons, with a dismal record of 2-18, are enduring their longest losing streak in franchise history within a single season. Bojan Bogdanovic, returning with 22 points in his season debut, expressed the team's desperate desire for a win amid their struggles, highlighting the difficulty of finding positive words in such challenging times.
Isaac Okoro, a key contributor off the bench for the Cavaliers, earned special praise from both Strus and coach J.B. Bickerstaff for his outstanding performance, including nine points, seven rebounds, four steals, and four assists in 33 minutes of play.
Despite a strong start to the second half by the Pistons, including a 10-0 run, the Cavaliers responded with an 11-0 run to regain control. Donovan Mitchell contributed 20 points, and Jarrett Allen recorded a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Cade Cunningham's 23 points and 11 assists were not enough to break the Pistons' losing streak.
In the face of Detroit's efforts, the Cavaliers secured the win, with a pivotal layup by Allen putting them ahead 85-82 going into the fourth quarter. Cleveland maintained their momentum, ultimately securing a 10-point lead.
Pistons coach Monty Williams acknowledged the team's struggles, pointing to lapses in the second and fourth quarters that impacted the outcome. Despite a late attempt to close the gap, the Pistons fell short, with missed opportunities, including a crucial 3-pointer by Bogdanovic.
Looking ahead, the Cavaliers will host Orlando on Wednesday night, while the Pistons will face Memphis in their next matchup.
