Club Brugge 0-3 Borussia Dortmund: Bynoe-Gittens scores brace as Dortmund secure victory over hosts

Nuri Sahin, the manager of Borussia Dortmund, celebrated a successful debut in the UEFA Champions League, as a pair of goals from substitute Jamie Bynoe-Gittens secured a 3-0 triumph at the Jan Breydel Stadion, marking their fifth consecutive clean sheet against Blauw-Zwart.
Club Brugge, having secured only three victories in their last 20 UCL home matches, faced a formidable challenge against last season's runners-up. The difficulty escalated almost immediately in the fourth minute when a cross from the right found Donyell Malen at the far post.
Caught in a dilemma between shooting and passing, his poorly executed shot drifted just wide, followed by Karim Adeyemi testing Simon Mignolet from long range shortly thereafter.
Dortmund nearly faced severe consequences for Malen's miss, as a mismanaged corner clearance led to the ball ricocheting around their penalty area, forcing Gregor Kobel into a crucial save from Gustaf Nilsson’s close-range effort, while Hugo Vetlesen struck the crossbar from just three yards out.
Dortmund regained control of the match, with Adeyemi being denied by Mignolet at the near post, and Maxim De Cuyper intercepting a promising pass intended for Dortmund’s main threat.
After being denied a penalty, Christos Tzolis was eager to make an immediate impact at the start of the second half, nearly scoring with a header that went wide from a well-placed cross by Joaquin Seys.
At the opposite end, Marcel Sabitzer attempted a low shot from an indirect free kick that narrowly missed the target, heightening the anticipation for a breakthrough in a tense evening in north-west Belgium.
Recognizing the opportunity for a memorable Champions League debut from the touchline, Sahin opted for a double substitution, bringing on Serhou Guirassy in place of Malen.
However, Brugge remained undeterred, and a swift counterattack from the Blauw-Zwart led to Andreas Skov Olsen delivering a cross for Vetlesen, who struck low, compelling Kobel to make a full-stretch save, despite the Norwegian's less than perfect connection.
At times, fortune favors those who may not seem deserving, a fact that became evident in the 78th minute when Emre Can's pass from the edge of the box set up Bynoe-Gittens on the left at a tight angle. He aimed for goal, and a deflection off Brandon Mechele redirected the ball into the net, leaving Brugge in shock.
Not content with just that, Bynoe-Gittens skillfully maneuvered past two defenders with a series of stepovers before sending a low shot into the right corner, securing a victory for Dortmund in their ninth consecutive season of UEFA Champions League participation.
For Brugge, this defeat marks their sixth loss in the last ten home encounters against German teams, a result made even more painful by a penalty awarded to Guirassy in the final moments conceded after Mechele fouled him allowing the Guinean to score by driving the ball into the top of Mignolet's net, adding further intensity to a match where superior finishing ultimately prevailed.
