Coco Gauff wins China Open Title in Straight-Sets

At just 20 years old, Gauff became the youngest champion in Beijing in 14 years and the second American woman to win the title after Serena Williams’ victories in 2004 and 2013.

Reflecting on her win, Gauff expressed her admiration for Williams, saying, “Honestly, it means a lot when I saw that the last American woman to win this was Serena Williams. Anytime my name is mentioned in the same sentence as hers, it’s a huge honor.”

This marks Gauff's eighth career title, improving her remarkable finals record to 8-1. Impressively, she remains unbeaten in hard-court finals, boasting a 7-0 record in such matches, a first in the Open Era.

“That’s pretty cool,” Gauff said. “I hope somebody else breaks it. I think records are meant to be broken, honestly.”

The U.S. star wasted little time in her final match, taking the first set in just 31 minutes. Gauff dominated Muchova with 24 winners, dropping only five points on her first serve and securing five breaks of serve. Her strong performance significantly boosted her chances of qualifying for the WTA Finals, where the top eight players compete. With her win, Gauff is set to overtake Jessica Pegula for the No. 5 spot ahead of the Wuhan Open.
