Colorado secure historic insurance policies for Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders

Colorado's head coach, Deion Sanders (57), has announced that the university has secured an unprecedented insurance policy for several players, including Travis Hunter (21) and Shedeur Sanders (22).

Both Hunter and Sanders are anticipated to be top-five selections in the forthcoming 2025 NFL Draft, and this insurance will provide coverage in the event of any unfortunate injuries during the upcoming Alamo Bowl against BYU.

"We have two players who are likely to be the first two picks in the NFL Draft," stated Sanders. "They have received what I believe is the highest level of coverage ever provided in college football. It significantly surpasses anything seen in the history of the sport."

In addition to Hunter and Sanders, several unnamed players are also covered for the upcoming game. Specific details regarding the insurance policy have not been disclosed. The projected number one overall pick in the draft is expected to earn approximately $40 million over a four-year contract.

"It was Coach Sanders' suggestion that we obtain disability insurance for our athletes for this game, ensuring their participation and providing them with adequate care in the event of an injury," remarked Colorado Athletic Director Rick George. "We collaborated on this initiative and are thrilled about it. We believe it is fantastic that all our players will be participating in the game, as that is the essence of bowl games."

While many college football programs are currently facing challenges in securing players for upcoming bowl games—evidenced by Marshall's forfeiture due to 29 players entering the transfer portal—Colorado has successfully retained all of its players for the Alamo Bowl.

This season, Sanders threw for 3,926 yards, achieving 35 touchdowns and eight interceptions, while Hunter recorded 92 receptions for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns. Additionally, Hunter contributed defensively with 31 tackles, 11 pass deflections, and four interceptions, earning him a spot as a Heisman Trophy candidate.

Colorado (#23) is set to face BYU (#17) at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, on Saturday at 7:30 PM EST.h
