CONCACAF Nations League: USA defeat Mexico to lift Nations League title

Tyler Adams and Gio Reyna scored to secure a 2-0 win for the US men's national team against Mexico in the CONCACAF Nations League final in Arlington, Texas, clinching their third consecutive title.
In the 2021 inaugural Nations League final, the US emerged victorious with a 3-2 win over Mexico in extra time. They continued their success by securing their second title in 2023, defeating Mexico in the semi-final and then triumphing over Canada with a 2-0 scoreline.
The US team has now maintained an unbeaten streak of seven games against Mexico, with the last Mexican victory occurring on September 6, 2019.
Adams, who hadn't started for the US since their loss to the Netherlands in the World Cup 475 days ago, made a remarkable impact by scoring a stunning goal from 35 yards to the upper left corner just before halftime.
Despite his limited playing time due to recent hamstring surgeries, he was substituted at halftime by Johnny Cardoso.
Reyna, who came off the bench in the semi-final against Jamaica and assisted in two extra-time goals by Haji Wright, continued his impressive form by scoring from the upper left side of the box shortly after the hour mark.
The goal was set up by Christian Pulisic's skillful dribble and cross, which was cleared by Mexican defender Johan Vasquez to Reyna. Reyna has been in excellent form, contributing two goals and five assists in his last five Nations League matches.
Mexico was awarded a penalty in the 72nd minute after a high kick by Antonee Robinson, but the decision was swiftly overturned by video review as Santiago Gimenez was deemed to have embellished the contact. Gimenez received a yellow card for his actions.
Prior to Adams' remarkable goal, the best scoring opportunity of the match occurred in the fifth minute when Pulisic dribbled into the box and forced a save from Guillermo Ochoa at the near post.
Despite Pulisic's attempt to target the upper corner, Ochoa managed to make a save by raising both arms above his head.
During the 88th and 96th minutes, the match was delayed twice due to homophobic chants from the pro-Mexican crowd during US goal kicks.
This behavior was also observed in the semi-finals last year, resulting in the arrest of several Mexican fans. CONCACAF expressed their condemnation of the discriminatory chanting and mentioned that security staff identified and removed a significant number of fans.
The referee and match officials activated the FIFA protocol in response to this issue, emphasizing their disappointment that such incidents still occur during matches.
