Connecticut Sun Defeat New York Liberty 78-63 in WNBA Semifinal Opener

The Connecticut Sun started their best-of-five WNBA semifinals playoff series on a high note, beating the New York Liberty 78-63. This victory marked a significant turnaround for the Sun, who had lost all four regular-season games against the Liberty, including two blowout losses in New York.

DeWanna Bonner led the way with 20 points, while Rebecca Allen contributed 18. The Sun's stellar defense played a pivotal role in the victory, limiting the Liberty to their lowest point total of the season. This win showcased Connecticut's ability to adapt and raise their defensive effort when it mattered most.

Breanna Stewart led the New York Liberty with 19 points but struggled with her shooting, going 7 for 25 from the field, including missing all eight of her 3-point attempts. Jonquel Jones recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, but it was the first time this season the Liberty lost when Jones achieved this feat.

Alyssa Thomas played a versatile game for the Sun, contributing eight points, 10 assists, and seven rebounds. The series now moves to Game 2, scheduled for Tuesday night in New York, where both teams will look to make adjustments and gain an edge.
