Connor McDavid scores to become the fourth-fastest player in NHL history to reach 1,000 points

Connor McDavid achieved the milestone of 1,000 points in the NHL, becoming the fourth-fastest player to do so. He scored early in the second period during the Edmonton Oilers' 3-2 overtime win against the Nashville Predators on Thursday night.
McDavid accomplished this feat in his 659th game. The record for the fastest is held by Wayne Gretzky at 424 games, followed by Mario Lemieux at 513 and Mike Bossy at 656. His career statistics now include 341 goals and 660 assists. He is the 99th player in NHL history to reach 1,000 points and, at the age of 27, ranks as the fourth youngest to achieve this milestone.
“These milestones provide an opportunity for reflection,” McDavid remarked. “The past ten years have been rewarding, and I hope for another decade of success. Some of these achievements have impacted me more emotionally than I anticipated.”
McDavid scored his milestone point by receiving a pass from Leon Draisaitl during a 2-on-1 break and successfully shooting past goalie Scott Wedgewood to equalize the score at 1.
“The reaction from my teammates means everything to me,” McDavid expressed. “Hearing the fans' support is more significant than any statistics. It was an incredibly special moment.”
He also contributed point No. 1,001 in overtime, providing a spinning backhand pass that assisted Darnell Nurse in scoring his second goal of the game.
Draisaitl remarked, "This is a remarkable occasion. I mentioned it recently; this is truly legendary." He noted his involvement in 446 of McDavid's 1,001 points. "To observe this achievement and to be included in it, having witnessed his development since he was 18 when we first met, is quite impressive and extraordinary to be a part of."
McDavid reached the milestone of 1,000 points in just 58 games after hitting 900. This season, he has recorded six goals and 13 assists.
