Inter Milan were defeated 2-1 at home by Bologna in the Coppa Italia last 16 on Wednesday, as an array of missed chances saw Simone Inzaghi's side crash out of the competition after extra time.
Forward Lautaro Martinez was denied by Bologna keeper Federico Ravaglia from the penalty spot after the hosts were awarded a penalty after the hour mark.
Inter defender Carlos Augusto scored two minutes into extra time with a header, before Bologna's Sam Beukema and Dan Ndoye both scored in the second half of extra time to advance to the quarter-finals.
Inter had won all eight of their previous Coppa Italia games against Bologna, who are currently fourth in Serie A.
