Costa Rica goalkeeper Keylor Navas announces international retirement

Costa Rica's goalkeeper, Keylor Navas, has officially announced his retirement from international football at the age of 37.

This decision puts an end to the speculations surrounding his participation in the upcoming Copa America.

Navas, who made his debut for the national team in 2008, has had an impressive career, made 114 appearances and represented his country in three World Cups, with the most notable being the 2014 tournament in Brazil where he helped Costa Rica reach the quarterfinals.

Navas recently played his final match for Costa Rica in a friendly against Argentina in March. With his retirement, he will not be partaking in the Copa America, scheduled to take place in the United States from 20 June to 14 July.

In a heartfelt video shared on social media, Navas expressed his gratitude and optimism for the future, stating, "This chapter of my life is coming to an end, I leave with my heart full of gratitude and my eyes looking forward, always carrying the name of our beloved Costa Rica.

" He added, "It's a bittersweet feeling, difficult to accept, this stage has come to an end. It's not goodbye, it's see you later because I know our paths will continue to cross. Thank you Costa Rica, see you later, pura vida."

Navas, who has been playing for Paris St Germain since 2019 and had a loan spell at Premier League side Nottingham Forest last year, is set to become a free agent in June.

During his time with PSG, he has won three Ligue 1 titles, including their record-extending 12th crown last month.

Prior to his stint in France, Navas played for LaLiga side Real Madrid, where he achieved great success, winning three Champions League titles.
