Cristiano Ronaldo extends Al Nassr contract until 2027

Cristiano Ronaldo has officially committed his future to Al Nassr, signing a two-year contract extension that will keep him at the Saudi Pro League club until 2027, the team confirmed on Thursday.

The 40-year-old Portuguese legend ended weeks of speculation by appearing in a teaser video walking along a beach, stating: “Al Nassr forever,” moments before the club shared the official announcement on X:

“Cristiano Ronaldo is staying at @AlNassrFC until 2027.”

This renewal comes just a month after Ronaldo stirred confusion among fans by posting, “This chapter is over,” shortly after Al Nassr’s trophyless finish to the Saudi Pro League season, in which they placed third.

Despite team struggles, Ronaldo remains a massive figure in Saudi football. He finished as the league’s top scorer with 25 goals, and his continued presence signals a long-term investment in Saudi Arabia's football project.

PIF Backing and Star Power

A source within the Public Investment Fund (PIF), the kingdom’s powerful sovereign wealth fund backing clubs like Al Nassr, said:

“Ronaldo’s presence is a key factor in developing the Saudi league… He opens the door for elite and young players to come to Saudi Arabia.”

Since Ronaldo’s 2023 arrival, a host of top players have followed suit—Neymar, Benzema, Kanté, among others—ushering in a new era of star-driven Saudi football ahead of the 2034 FIFA World Cup, which the nation is set to host.

Ronaldo’s Legacy Continues

While he has yet to deliver a domestic or continental trophy with Al Nassr, Ronaldo has repeatedly stated his comfort in Riyadh and hinted previously at retiring at the club.
This new deal would see him play professionally until at least age 42, an astounding feat even for one of the game’s most decorated figures.

With his leadership, Al Nassr and Saudi football continue to benefit from increased visibility, global media attention, and elevated performance expectations.
