Crystal Palace 2-2 Manchester City: 10-man Cityzens stumble to draw at Palace

Manchester City had to settle for a draw after twice coming from behind to finish 2-2 against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, thereby extending their winless streak in away matches to six across all competitions.

Entering the match with renewed optimism following a 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest that ended a seven-game winless streak, City’s confidence was quickly shaken by Daniel Muñoz’s goal in the fourth minute. The Colombian capitalized on a perfectly placed through ball from Will Hughes, maintaining his composure to slot a right-footed shot past Stefan Ortega, marking his second goal for the Eagles in consecutive matches.

Shortly thereafter, Dean Henderson, Palace's goalkeeper, made a crucial save to deny Erling Haaland from close range. The Premier League champions continued to generate opportunities, with İlkay Gündoğan hitting the woodwork before Savinho sent the rebound wide of the far post.

Defensively, the Cityzens faced significant pressure to maintain a one-goal deficit, with Rúben Dias executing a vital block to thwart a powerful strike from Jefferson Lerma. Dias' timely intervention was further highlighted when Haaland equalized just two minutes later, nodding in his 13th league goal of the season after connecting with an inviting cross from Matheus Nunes.

After witnessing his team level the score before halftime, Pep Guardiola must have felt frustrated to see them concede again early in the second half. Palace defender Maxence Lacroix rose above Kyle Walker to head home from Hughes’ deep corner, marking the midfielder's second assist of the match.

Nevertheless, similar to the first half, City responded to Palace's goal, with Rico Lewis unleashing an unstoppable shot into the top corner after receiving a pass from Bernardo Silva.

Following his team's equalization just before halftime, Pep Guardiola would have felt considerable disappointment as his players relinquished that parity early in the second half.

Palace defender Maxence Lacroix rose above Kyle Walker to powerfully head in a goal from Hughes’ deep corner, marking the midfielder's second assist of the match.

Nevertheless, similar to the first half, City managed to respond to a goal from Palace, with Rico Lewis delivering an unstoppable shot into the top corner after receiving a pass from Bernardo Silva.

Regrettably for Lewis, his moment of celebration was short-lived as he received a second yellow card in the 84th minute for a challenge on Trevoh Chalobah, resulting in his dismissal.

Despite being a man down, the visitors held firm to secure a single point, leaving them in fourth place and a significant eight points behind the leaders, having played one more match. Meanwhile, the Eagles moved four points clear of the relegation zone.
