Crystal Palace vs Liverpool: Community Shield 2025 Line-ups & Preview

The curtain-raiser to the English football season promises an electrifying clash at Wembley Stadium as FA Cup champions Crystal Palace take on Premier League title holders Liverpool in the 2025 FA Community Shield on Sunday, August 10, with kick-off scheduled for 3:00 PM BST.

This year’s Community Shield is not just a battle for silverware but a compelling showdown between two clubs coming into the new season from starkly different trajectories. For Liverpool, it’s a chance to reaffirm their domestic dominance and begin their title defense with a statement. For Crystal Palace, it’s an opportunity to build on their historic FA Cup victory and challenge the established elite, despite a turbulent summer.

Crystal Palace: Eberechi Eze the symbol of a new era

Crystal Palace made headlines last season by stunning Manchester City in the FA Cup final at this very venue. A sensational goal from Eberechi Eze sealed the club's first-ever major trophy, ending City’s hopes of a domestic double and etching Eze’s name in club folklore.

However, under manager Oliver Glasner, the Eagles struggled to maintain consistency in the Premier League, finishing a modest 12th despite their cup heroics. Now in his second full season, Glasner faces a stiff challenge to build momentum in south London.

The biggest victory of their summer may not be a signing, but rather keeping hold of star playmaker Eze, who continues to draw interest from Arsenal. But questions remain about the lack of reinforcements, with transfer activity largely underwhelming so far.

Palace’s pre-season form has been mixed, with just three wins from six friendlies, although they ended last season with an impressive eight-game unbeaten run, including a 1-1 draw with Liverpool on the final day.

Liverpool: Slot looks to build a Dynasty

Arne Slot’s debut season at Anfield was nothing short of remarkable. The Dutchman became only the seventh manager to win the Premier League in his first campaign in England, guiding Liverpool to their second top-flight crown in five years.

But outside the league, the Reds underwhelmed, falling early in the UEFA Champions League and losing the League Cup final to Newcastle United. Now, they’ll want to kick off 2025/26 by adding more silverware to their collection and establishing an era of sustained success.

Liverpool have been aggressive in the transfer window, breaking their own record to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. Other key additions include Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Hugo Ekitike, and goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.

The only notable departure is Luis Díaz, who joined Bayern Munich. However, with Mohamed Salah still in imperious form, Liverpool’s attacking threat remains potent. Pre-season results have been promising, with four wins from five and at least three goals scored in every victory. The only blemish was a 4-2 defeat to AC Milan.
