Curran help England defeat the West Indies

England achieved a comfortable victory in North Sound, Antigua, chasing down a target of 203 in less than 33 overs. This win sets up a series finale in Barbados on Saturday.

Opener Will Jacks played a confident innings, scoring 73 off 72 balls, before being dismissed lbw by Sherfane Rutherford. Jos Buttler, who remained unbeaten on 58, formed a crucial partnership of 90 runs with Harry Brook (43), ultimately securing the win for the tourists.

Buttler's knock also brought him the distinction of becoming the fifth England batsman to surpass 5,000 runs in ODI cricket. This half-century marked a significant moment for Buttler, as it was his first since September, prior to England's disappointing exit from the World Cup.

Reflecting on his performance, Buttler expressed his pleasure, particularly considering his limited contribution of three runs in the series opener. He acknowledged the frustration of recent times but also expressed contentment with achieving such milestones after playing for a long period.

Among the West Indies bowlers, Gudakesh Motie stood out, claiming the wickets of Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett in consecutive overs.

Earlier in the match, Sam Curran delivered a devastating spell, taking three wickets for 33 runs and decimating the hosts' top order. This performance served as redemption for Curran, who had previously endured a challenging outing in the first ODI, conceding 98 runs without taking a wicket - the worst-ever figures for an England bowler.

Curran emphasized the need to move forward and bounce back after a tough day, highlighting the team's determination to rectify their mistakes from the previous game.

In their innings, West Indies suffered early collapses, finding themselves struggling at 23-4. However, captain Shai Hope (68) and Sherfane Rutherford (63) built a partnership of 129 runs, leading their team to a respectable total.

Spinner Liam Livingstone dismissed both Hope and Rutherford, significantly impacting West Indies' momentum. Additionally, Gus Atkinson and Rehan Ahmed contributed with two wickets each.

The third and final ODI will take place at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday, followed by a five-match Twenty20 series between the two sides.
