Curry leads Warriors to 118-112 victory over Spurs

Gary Payton II showcased his defensive prowess with an impressive high-leaping block against the towering 7-foot-3 Victor Wembanyama upon his return from a foot injury. Despite being one of the smallest players in the matchup, Payton attributed his success to sheer energy and effort.

In a closely contested game, Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 35 points and seven 3-pointers, matching his season high. The victory was crucial for Golden State, as they strive to advance out of Group C in the in-season tournament.

Cedi Osman's late 3-pointer brought the Spurs within three points, but Curry sealed the win with four free throws, supported by Klay Thompson's contribution. Post-game, Curry hosted the Davidson team in the Warriors' practice facility.

Dario Saric, coming off the bench, contributed 20 points and seven rebounds, while Thompson added 15 points and six assists. Despite winning only the second game in nine attempts, the Warriors remain focused on advancing in the tournament.

The game saw impressive moments, including Wembanyama's 22 points and eight rebounds, but Payton's remarkable block stole the spotlight. Devin Vassell led the Spurs with 24 points, and Keldon Johnson had a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds.

Despite missing Draymond Green due to suspension, the Warriors secured the victory, with Green set to return in the next game against Sacramento. The win was not without challenges, as the Warriors discussed point differential during a late timeout, and a comfortable lead dwindled to a tight finish.

The Warriors' defensive efforts were notable, holding off the Spurs' advances, but turnovers remained a concern, contributing to 34 points for the opposition. The game marked the unveiling of the Jim Barnett Media Center, honoring the team's former player and broadcaster.

Looking ahead, the Spurs will face Denver, while the Warriors have a crucial Group C play against the Kings, aiming to secure a quarterfinal spot. Coach Steve Kerr expressed hope for Green's readiness and anticipation of his significant minutes in the upcoming games.
