Danielle Collins has decided against retirement and will continue her career into 2025

American tennis player Danielle Collins, currently ranked ninth in the world, has reversed her decision to retire at the conclusion of the season and has opted to continue her career into 2025, as she announced in a social media update on Thursday.
The 30-year-old, known by the moniker 'Danimal' due to her fierce playing style, had previously declared her intention to retire after the 2024 season to focus on starting a family, following her exit in the second round of the Australian Open in January.
"Although I was looking forward to concluding my tennis career on a high note this year and eagerly transitioning into the next chapter of my life, circumstances have not unfolded as I anticipated," Collins stated on her Instagram account.
"Thus, the Danimal narrative is far from over. I will return to the tour in 2025."
Collins elaborated that she has been facing several health issues in recent months, including a diagnosis of endometriosis, and suggested that her aspirations to start a family have proven to be more complex than she initially expected.
"Navigating endometriosis and fertility presents significant challenges for many women, and it is a journey I am currently undertaking, but I have complete faith in the team I am collaborating with," she remarked.
"It will simply take longer than I had envisioned."
On Friday, Collins was selected to represent the United States in the upcoming mixed team United Cup tournament in Sydney and Perth, indicating her likely participation at the Australian Open in mid-January.
It was at the Australian Open where she achieved her best performance in a Grand Slam, reaching the final in 2022, where she was defeated by the now-retired Ash Barty.
In 2024, she experienced notable success, securing titles in Miami and Charleston, but faced challenges such as heat stroke during the Paris Olympics and an early exit in the US Open, where she opted not to receive a farewell at Flushing Meadows.
"While life offers no guarantees, I aspire to build on my momentum from 2024 and continue competing until there is greater clarity regarding my personal fertility journey," she expressed.
"For now, the only certainty is that there will be more thrilling matches ahead."
