Darmstadt 98 0-2 Bayer Leverkusen: Tella scores brace as Leverkusen continue incredible run with win over hosts

Bayer Leverkusen bounced back to victory in the Bundesliga with a convincing 2-0 triumph over Darmstadt, further extending their remarkable unbeaten streak to a club-record 29 matches.

Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso found himself at the center of media attention, which surely didn't benefit the team's pursuit of the title as they were held to a draw by Borussia Monchengladbach last week.

However, the visitors were determined to rectify that result and had a golden opportunity to take the lead within the first 20 minutes. Alejandro Grimaldo delivered a precise pass to Adam Hlozek inside the box, but the Czech international narrowly missed the target.

Although Leverkusen didn't display their best form in the opening period, it was Grimaldo who managed to unlock the Darmstadt defense and break the deadlock with his fifth assist in as many games.

Grimaldo's accurate cross from the left found Nathan Tella at the back post, who headed home and justified his selection on the right side over Jeremie Frimpong.

At halftime, the visitors held a slim lead but managed to limit Darmstadt's attacking opportunities. While a second goal wasn't necessary, it was certainly welcomed by the traveling fans when Tella scored in spectacular fashion, courtesy of a brilliant pass from Florian Wirtz.

Darmstadt had no response to falling two goals behind and even came close to a more embarrassing scoreline when Wirtz's effort hit the crossbar.

Nevertheless, Leverkusen secured an important victory, which serves as a positive preparation for their upcoming clash against Bayern in the thrilling title race. On the other hand, Darmstadt remains at the bottom of the table, six points away from safety, as their winless streak extends to 13 matches.
