Delhi defeats Rajasthan to stay in the race for IPL playoffs

Delhi Capitals emerged victorious by a margin of 20 runs against Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday, rendering Skipper Sanju Samson's impressive knock of 86 futile. This win keeps Delhi Capitals in contention for an IPL play-off spot.

Delhi achieved a total of 221-8 thanks to Jake Fraser-McGurk's quick 50 off 20 balls and Abishek Porel's aggressive 65 at their home ground, Feroz Shah Kotla.

Rajasthan started off well in their chase, with Sanju Samson scoring his fifth half-century of the season.

However, his dismissal, which was ruled as a clean catch by the third umpire, turned the match in Delhi's favor.

Rajasthan lost three more wickets in the following overs, and Delhi managed to restrict them to 201-8, securing their sixth win in 12 matches.

Despite the loss, Rajasthan, who are currently in second place behind Kolkata Knight Riders, are still favorites to secure a spot in the playoffs.

The top four teams will make it to the playoffs, with the top two teams having the advantage of playing an extra match to enter the final on May 26 in Chennai.

Delhi's bowlers, including spinner Kuldeep Yadav and fast bowlers Khaleel Ahmed and Mukesh Kumar, performed well, but it was the strong batting performance by Fraser-McGurk and Porel that set up the victory.

Rajasthan's Tristan Stubbs also played a late charge, scoring 41 off 20 balls to take the total to 221-8.

However, it was not enough to secure a win. Samson, who has been in great form this season with 459 runs, tried to lead the chase but was dismissed in the 16th over.

Despite a discussion with the on-field officials, the third umpire ruled him out, leading to his disappointment.

Rajasthan's bowling was led by veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who took three wickets for 24 runs.
