Dembélé Crowned FIFA Best Men’s Player of 2025

Paris Saint-Germain and France forward Ousmane Dembélé has been named FIFA Best Men’s Player of the Year for 2025, capping a remarkable campaign at both club and international level.

The 28-year-old received the honour at the FIFA Best Awards ceremony in Qatar on Tuesday, adding to the Ballon d’Or he claimed earlier in September and confirming his status as one of world football’s dominant figures.

Dembélé’s award follows an outstanding 2024–25 season in which he played a decisive role in PSG’s most successful year to date. Under head coach Luis Enrique, the French champions lifted four major trophies, including their first-ever UEFA Champions League title.

Since joining PSG from Barcelona in 2023, Dembélé has enjoyed the most productive spell of his career. Last season, he recorded 51 combined goals and assists in 53 appearances across all competitions, emerging as the focal point of PSG’s attack.

His influence was most pronounced in Europe. Dembélé scored eight goals in the Champions League, delivering crucial finishes against Liverpool and Arsenal during the knockout stages as PSG marched to continental glory.

That run of performances saw him edge out Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé to claim FIFA’s top individual honour.

Dembélé’s campaign did not start at full speed, but his fortunes changed dramatically midway through the season when Luis Enrique repositioned him as a central striker. The tactical switch unlocked his scoring instinct and consistency, transforming him into one of Europe’s most lethal attackers.

In total, he finished the season with 35 goals, many of them arriving in decisive moments, and carried that momentum into the current campaign with three goals and three assists already registered.

He attended the awards ceremony just one day before PSG’s Intercontinental Cup clash with Flamengo, underlining the relentless schedule that has accompanied his rise.

Recognition among the Game’s Elite

By winning the FIFA Best award, Dembélé joins an elite group of past recipients that includes Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo since the prize was introduced in 2016.

The award recognises performances between August 2024 and August 2025 and is decided by a combined vote of national team coaches, captains, media representatives, and fans worldwide.

Impact Beyond Club Football

On the international stage, Dembélé also played a key role in helping France secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup. The two-time world champions have been drawn alongside Senegal, Norway, and a play-off qualifier in the group phase.

With club silverware, individual recognition, and growing leadership responsibilities, Dembélé now enters the next phase of his career as a central figure for both PSG and France.

If his current trajectory continues, the PSG forward appears poised not only to shape the coming season but also to cement his legacy among the defining players of his generation
