Denmark 0-0 Serbia: Danes settle for draw to secure qualification

Denmark secured a goalless draw against Serbia, securing their spot in the Round of 16 of the UEFA European Championships in a rather uninspiring manner.
Given the high stakes for both teams, it was expected that the initial exchanges would be cautious. It wasn't until the 16th minute that a scoring opportunity was created, with Joakim Mæhle delivering a cross to Alexander Bah, whose header missed the target. Denmark, who reached the semi-finals three years ago, were hoping for a better start.
Christian Eriksen, who became Denmark's most-capped player of all time during the match, came close with a long-range shot that was brilliantly saved by the Serbian goalkeeper. The 1996 champions were eager to increase the pressure.
Eventually, Dragan Stojković's team managed to regain control, but they struggled to create chances of their own. In fact, they only managed one shot before halftime, a missed header from Aleksandar Mitrović.
Rasmus Højlund was denied by goalkeeper Predrag Rajković, and Jonas Wind missed a good opportunity from a central position.
Shortly after halftime, Serbia thought they had scored, but the goal was disallowed due to an offside against Luka Jović.
From that point on, Kasper Hjulmand's side appeared more likely to break the deadlock. However, Andreas Christensen and Morten Hjulmand were unable to find the target with their finishing, and Jannik Vestergaard's powerful header from a corner was saved by the goalkeeper.
As time ticked away, Serbia, who have never advanced to the knockout stages of a major tournament, tried to increase the pressure, knowing that only a victory would give them a chance to progress.
They introduced several attacking players into the game, but they lacked the creativity and imagination to break through Denmark's resilient defense.
Mitrović did send a shot wide when unmarked inside the penalty area, but the final pass was lacking, which was a recurring issue for the Serbian team throughout the tournament.
The Eagles failed to register a shot on target until Sergej Milinković-Savić's attempt was saved by Kasper Schmeichel in injury time.
As a result, they ended up at the bottom of the group with two points. Denmark secured a spot in the next round as runners-up, having drawn all three of their matches.
