Dinamo Zagreb 0-0 Celtic: Celtic earn point to keep Champions League hopes alive

Dinamo Zagreb and Celtic both secured their positions within the qualification spots for the UEFA Champions League (UCL) following an engaging 0-0 stalemate in the Croatian capital, marking the end of the hosts' three-match winning streak in head-to-head encounters.

Celtic adopted a cautious strategy in the initial stages, prioritizing ball possession over offensive aggression. This tactic nearly yielded results when Paulo Bernardo's free-kick narrowly missed the target, curling just above the crossbar.

The home team found it challenging to generate scoring opportunities, although Sandro Kulenovic did come close in the 29th minute when a loose ball fell to him in the penalty area. Unfortunately, he misfired his volley, sending the ball well off target.

The first half was uneventful, with neither team managing a shot on goal, but the match became more dynamic after the interval.

Celtic appeared poised to secure a victory when Ronael Pierre-Gabriel deflected Nicolas Kuhn’s shot over the bar, coming close to breaking the deadlock.

Cameron Carter-Vickers also had an opportunity as Dinamo struggled to clear the ball from their box, but the American defender, off balance, sent his attempt soaring over the goal.

The hosts, however, posed a threat on the counterattack, with Martin Baturina nearly scoring from the edge of the area, his shot just clearing the bar.

As the match progressed, Brendan Rodgers made several attacking substitutions in an attempt to shift the momentum, but it was Dinamo who gained the upper hand in the closing moments. Marko Pjaca nearly found the net with a looping header, but Kasper Schmeichel executed a remarkable fingertip save to deny him.

In the closing moments, it appeared that Adam Idah was ready to score and secure all three points for the Hoops; however, an outstanding defensive effort from Kévin Théophile-Catherine thwarted his attempt, resulting in a shared outcome.

This point may prove significant for both teams, as they remain within the top 24 and are in contention for qualification with only two matchdays remaining, while Celtic has maintained an unbeaten streak in their last four UCL matches.
