Djokovic destroys Rune to reach 15th Wimbledon quarter before blasting crowd

He advanced to the quarterfinals, marking his 15th time reaching this stage in his career. Despite a slight setback towards the end of the second set, Djokovic dominated the match, winning the first 12 points.

However, he expressed his frustration towards some fans who he felt were disrespectful by chanting Rune's name during the match. Djokovic thanked the respectful fans for their support and criticized those who he believed were disrespectful towards him.

He emphasized the importance of respect in tennis and acknowledged the challenges he has faced throughout his more than 20 years on the Tour.

It was an unusual conclusion to a one-sided match where Djokovic made a strong statement of intent under the roof, once again closing out on a rainy day in Southwest London.

Any concerns about his knee, which underwent surgery after his withdrawal from the French Open, were put to rest as he smoothly glided around the Centre Court turf in his typical precise manner.

The only minor hiccup occurred when Rune served at 3-5 in the second set and fell behind 0-40, but he managed to save those set points and three more before holding his serve.

In the following game, Rune appeared to pose a threat and had a chance to level the score at 5-5. However, Djokovic saved that point and earned another set point with a backhand shot down the line, which he successfully converted, effectively sealing the match.

While Rune displayed flashes of brilliance with his shot-making skills, he committed too many errors and lacked the belief needed to defeat a top-five opponent, resulting in his 10th consecutive Tour-level loss against such players.

Djokovic, aiming to secure his 25th Grand Slam title and become the first player to do so, will face Australia's Alex De Minaur in his record-extending 60th Grand Slam quarter-final on Wednesday.

"I'm feeling confident," he remarked. "Alex is one of the fastest, if not the fastest, players on the Tour. Therefore, I anticipate doing a significant amount of running.

Nonetheless, I still enjoy running at the age of 37, so I am prepared."
