Despite dropping the opening set in a tiebreak to the fearless No. 22 seed, Djokovic rallied with trademark composure and control, dominating the second and grinding out crucial points in the third and fourth to outlast his younger opponent.
Cobolli, who had emerged as one of the tournament’s surprise packages with a string of notable wins, began brightly and pushed Djokovic with aggressive baseline play. His shot selection and confidence earned him the opening set 7-6(6), sparking hopes of an upset.
But Djokovic, a seven-time Wimbledon champion, regrouped and elevated his level, breaking Cobolli early in the second set and cruising through 6-2. From there, the 24-time Grand Slam winner mixed his precise returns with measured aggression to clinch a tight third set 7-5 and close the match 6-4 in the fourth, after three hours and 12 minutes of action.
