Djokovic undergoes successful knee surgery after French Open withdrawal

Novak Djokovic, aged 37, recently underwent a knee surgery due to an injury he sustained during his fourth-round victory over Francisco Cerundolo.

This unfortunate incident forced him to withdraw from the French Open and raises concerns about his participation in Wimbledon and the Olympics.

The injury, a torn medial meniscus, not only ended Djokovic's pursuit of a 25th Grand Slam title but also resulted in him losing his top ranking to Italian player Jannik Sinner, effective from Monday.

Despite playing through the pain with the help of painkillers, the MRI results confirmed the severity of the injury and led Djokovic to make the difficult decision to undergo surgery.

In an Instagram post, he expressed his gratitude for the well wishes and informed his followers that the surgery was successful, although he is still processing the situation.

I am extremely grateful for the team of doctors who have stood by my side, as well as the overwhelming support I have received from my fans.

I will strive to prioritize my health and fitness in order to make a swift return to the court. My passion for this sport is unwavering, and it is my determination to compete at the highest level that keeps me motivated.

Wimbledon, a tournament that Djokovic has triumphed in seven times, is scheduled to take place from July 1st to 14th. Additionally, the men's singles tennis tournament at the Paris Olympics is set to occur from July 27th to August 4th.

Djokovic's injury is the most recent setback in a series of unfortunate events for the Serbian player. Despite winning three out of the four major tournaments last year, he has struggled to find his form this season.

In 2024, he has yet to secure a title and experienced a semi-final defeat at the hands of eventual champion Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open held in January.
