Dodgers bolster bullpen with All-Star closer Tanner Scott in blockbuster deal

The Los Angeles Dodgers continue to strengthen their star-studded pitching roster, reportedly agreeing to a four-year, $72 million deal with left-handed closer Tanner Scott, according to multiple outlets.

MLB.com confirmed the agreement with the 2024 All-Star, while The Athletic noted the contract includes a signing bonus and deferred money, though specific details remain undisclosed. As reported by MLB Trade Rumors, Scott's deal ranks among the highest for a free-agent reliever, tying for third in average annual value and fifth in total guaranteed money.

Scott is expected to add firepower to the Dodgers' bullpen, supporting a rotation that could feature Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, and newly signed Roki Sasaki. The team also anticipates Clayton Kershaw's return in 2025 following his rehab from injury.

The 30-year-old lefty had an outstanding 2024 season, splitting his time between the Miami Marlins and San Diego Padres. Across 72 games, Scott recorded a 9-6 record, a 1.75 ERA, and 22 saves, striking out 84 batters over 72 innings.

Scott’s career stats include stints with the Baltimore Orioles (2017-21), Marlins (2022-24), and Padres, during which he amassed a 31-24 record, a 3.56 ERA, and 55 saves.

With the additions of Sasaki and Scott, the Dodgers are pushing their payroll past the $375 million luxury-tax threshold, as reported by ESPN. Only the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees have surpassed the $300 million mark, underscoring the Dodgers’ commitment to building a championship-caliber team.

Tanner Scott’s arrival signals the Dodgers’ determination to secure bullpen dominance and maintain their position as one of MLB’s premier franchises.
