Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani feels "honored" to claim his first World Series title

Shohei Ohtani expressed his deep appreciation for securing his inaugural World Series title following the Los Angeles Dodgers' triumph over the New York Yankees in the Fall Classic on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old Japanese sensation joined the Dodgers in December after spending six unproductive seasons with the Los Angeles Angels, eager to experience the thrill of postseason success.

Ohtani's pursuit of a championship culminated in a remarkable victory on Wednesday, as the Dodgers staged an impressive comeback to win 7-6, thereby sealing a 4-1 series triumph.

Despite having a relatively subdued World Series—without a home run and dealing with a shoulder injury sustained in game two—this did not diminish the significance of his first championship.

"I am honored to be part of a season where we played the longest and to have the opportunity to bond with this team," Ohtani remarked after a celebration filled with beer and champagne in the Dodgers' locker room.

"My first year experiencing a World Series victory has been an incredible honor."

Ohtani's inaugural season with the Dodgers faced potential turmoil before it even began, as his interpreter was arrested for embezzling millions from him to settle illegal gambling debts.

Nevertheless, he went on to deliver an outstanding regular season, becoming the first player in baseball history to achieve 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a single season, significantly contributing to the team's successful postseason run.

Ohtani credited the resilience and support of his teammates for helping him navigate the season.

"We managed to endure the regular season due to the strength of this team and organization," Ohtani stated.

"The success we achieved in the postseason mirrors how we performed during the regular season. Once again, it reflects the strength of the organization.

"I am extremely honored to be a part of this."

Ohtani remarked that although Dodgers stars Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman have been pivotal to the team's success, the overall achievement of the season can be attributed to the depth of the entire roster.

"I truly believe that the professionalism exhibited by both players (Betts and Freeman) is exceptional, and beyond them, we had a very strong lineup filled with talented hitters from 1 to 9," he stated.

"This environment has enabled me to enhance my performance, not only in terms of technique but also in my professionalism."

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, in turn, acknowledged Ohtani's remarkable debut season with the team, which culminated in a championship.

"After six years in the United States, he is arguably the best player in Major League Baseball," Roberts noted.

"He chose to join us, expressing a desire to compete for a championship. The fact that this has materialized in his first year is quite extraordinary.

"The impact Shohei has had on our team and the Dodgers fan base, both domestically and internationally, is immeasurable. Moreover, he is an outstanding individual.

"During the postseason, he played despite a significant injury. While many would have opted out, he was determined to participate and contribute to the lineup."
