Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa facing fresh concussion lay-off

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, aged 26, is set to endure an extended period away from the field following yet another concussion, which has reignited discussions regarding his potential retirement.
On Tuesday, the Dolphins announced that Tagovailoa will be placed on injured reserve, resulting in his absence for the next four games before he can be considered for a return.
Given that the Dolphins have a bye week in the sixth week of the season, the earliest opportunity for Tagovailoa to return to action will be on October 27th, when the team is scheduled to compete against the Arizona Cardinals.
Last week, Tagovailoa sustained the third confirmed concussion of his career during a significant impact in the Dolphins' 31-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills. He remained on the ground for several minutes before being taken out of the game, a situation reminiscent of troubling events from 2022, when he experienced two head injuries in quick succession.
Additionally, he suffered a concussion during a Christmas Day matchup in 2022 against the Green Bay Packers, which sidelined him for three games.
While Tagovailoa managed to play the majority of the previous season without incident, the recent incident has led to renewed calls for him to reassess his career trajectory.
"That's it... NFL, go ahead and do the right thing," stated retired former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant.
"Tua has experienced far too many concussions. For the sake of his long-term health, he should consider retirement," he added.
Former Denver Broncos tight end Shannon Sharpe concurred, suggesting that Tagovailoa should contemplate ending his career.
"I truly hope Tua is alright, but he must seriously consider stepping away," Sharpe expressed on X.
"I dislike saying this. His concussions are becoming increasingly severe, and he is a young man with a full life ahead of him," he remarked.
On Monday, Miami coach Mike McDaniel deflected inquiries regarding Tagovailoa's future.
"In terms of Tua's career, I believe it is essential for Tua himself to address that matter," McDaniel stated.
"My primary concern is the well-being of the individual and his daily state. I will allow Tua to take the lead in discussing his own career."
