Eagles' Jalen Carter cleared for Chiefs clash after spitting incident with Dak Prescott

Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter will be available for Sunday’s Week 2 Super Bowl rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs despite his ejection in the season opener. Carter was thrown out of Thursday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys after spitting on quarterback Dak Prescott before the first play from scrimmage.

The NFL announced on Tuesday that Carter would forfeit his Week 1 game check, valued at $57,222, as his suspension. "Because Carter was disqualified before participating in a single play, the suspension is considered to have been served in Week 1 and he will forfeit his game check," the league stated. Carter will not appeal the decision and is cleared to play at Arrowhead Stadium this weekend.

Prescott shared his perspective following the Eagles’ 24-20 win, explaining that he spat on the ground while speaking to a teammate and Carter mistook it as being directed at him. After a brief exchange of words during a stoppage, Carter retaliated by spitting on Prescott in front of an official.

The 24-year-old defender later issued an apology, vowing the incident would not happen again. Carter is coming off a Pro Bowl season in which he registered 4.5 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, six pass deflections and two forced fumbles. Drafted ninth overall in 2023, he had previously slipped down the board due to off-field issues.
