Eagles land ex-Pro Bowler Jaire Alexander in trade with Ravens

The Philadelphia Eagles have made a notable move to strengthen their secondary, acquiring former Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander from the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday.

The Ravens will send Alexander and a 2027 seventh-round pick to Philadelphia in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick, giving the Eagles a low-risk, high-upside addition to their defensive backfield.

Alexander, 28, struggled to find playing time in Baltimore this season, appearing in only two of eight games and logging just 61 defensive snaps without a pass breakup or interception. He was a healthy scratch five times, including Thursday’s 28-6 win over Miami, as he slipped down the depth chart behind younger options.

A fresh start in Philadelphia

For Alexander, the move offers a much-needed reset. The veteran corner signed a one-year, $4 million deal with Baltimore in June to reunite with former Louisville teammate Lamar Jackson and add experience to the Ravens’ secondary. However, a preseason knee injury derailed his momentum, and his poor showing in the Week 1 loss to Buffalo cost him his spot in the rotation.

The Eagles, meanwhile, are searching for stability opposite rookie standout Quinyon Mitchell. Philadelphia’s cornerback group has talent but has been inconsistent, with Cooper DeJean, Adoree’ Jackson, and Kelee Ringo rotating on the outside in various packages.

Earlier this week, the Eagles also traded for Michael Carter II, who primarily plays nickel. That could push DeJean to a permanent role outside, opening up flexibility for defensive coordinator Christian Parker, who worked with Alexander in Green Bay during the 2019–20 seasons.

Once an elite corner, now seeking redemption

Before joining the Ravens, Alexander was released by the Packers on June 9 following two injury-riddled years. Despite the setbacks, his résumé speaks for itself: a two-time All-Pro (2020, 2022) and one of the league’s top cover men at his peak.

Since entering the NFL as the 18th overall pick in the 2018 draft, Alexander has recorded 292 tackles, 12 interceptions, and 70 passes defensed across stints with the Packers and Ravens.

If he can stay healthy and regain even part of his old form, he could become a key piece in the Eagles’ playoff push — or at least provide valuable veteran depth as the team navigates the second half of the season.
